Summer Construction Season

New CIHA Leadership Yields Busy Construction Season
Cook Inlet Housing Authority broke ground this month on its third major construction project in two years - a project that will bring the organization’s number of total rental units up from 267 at the end of 2002 to 420 at the completion of the new 40-unit elder facility, Tyonek Terrace.
Strawberry Village Cottages - a new town-home style family rental property in South Anchorage, Kenaitze Pointe - a quality elder rental property in East Anchorage, and Tyonek Terrace - the latest 40-unit addition to CIHA’s elder rental stock, are all possible through partnership with organizations such as Koonce Pfeffer Bettis, Venture Development, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and the Federal Home Loan Bank as well as private investors like Related Capital and Northrim Bank.
The first of the three new projects, Strawberry Village Cottages will be 100 percent complete this summer - including $300,000 in landscaping. A celebration “block party” is planned for late August, featuring a BBQ with all the trimmings and lots of fun activities for the whole family.
In late July, the first residents moved into CIHA’s new Kenaitze Pointe property located at the Muldoon campus in Anchorage. The property is expected to be fully occupied by late summer.
CIHA is seeing a number of projects long in the planning phase, finally come to fruition ... and there are plenty of “plans” in the wings to keep the organization’s construction department ultra busy.
CIHA is involved with the proposed new Brother Francis Shelter, and we're working on a dorm project in partnership with Alaska Pacific University, The CIRI Foundation and Cook Inlet Tribal Council. CIHA’s begun purchasing property in Mt. View as a part of their Neighborhood Revitalization project, and we've purchased 24+ acres within the Creekside Towncenter site. Control of this site provides CIHA with many opportunities to offer affordable housing for our clients; in fact, the master plan calls for approximately 1,100 housing units in total, both “market” and affordable, rental and ownership.
