Brand-New Mt. View Rental Homes Available in September

Twelve brand-new, three-bedroom, two-car garage, 1,500 square foot homes are currently under construction in Mountain View and the first four will be available for rent by early fall: all 12 of the rental homes will be available for rent by year-end.

In an effort to improve the quality of affordable housing as well as the quality of life in Anchorage, Cook Inlet Housing has launched a significant neighborhood revitalization effort in Mountain View. In addition to demolishing sixteen dilapidated homes and constructing 20 brand-new ones, Cook Inlet Housing is also thoroughly renovating four 4-plex properties.

The three-bedroom, single family homes will rent for $1,038 per month while the two-bedroom apartments will be offered at $776 per month. July 15 is Cook Inlet Housing Authority's priority application deadline for the 12 rental homes and 16 two-bedroom completely renovated apartments. The homes and apartments are available to families whose incomes, for example, are below $42,480 and $47,220 for families of three and four people.

An additional eight homes will be completed by early 2005 and offered for home-ownership. John Hagmeier, Alaska's most award winning home builder, has designed and is building the 20 new Mountain View Homes.

Cook Inlet Housing's Neighborhood Revitalization Program was officially launched on May 6, with the demolition of a derelict Mt. View duplex, located at 4102/4104 Peterkin Avenue, which had been previously condemned by the Municipality.

When complete, CIHA will have invested approximately $10.3 million in phase I of this concentrated neighborhood revitalization effort. Dependant on available funding, Cook Inlet Housing hopes to launch a second phase in 2005.

With the participation of many critical partners such as the Mountain View Community Council, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, HUD, Wells Fargo, Municipality of Anchorage and other private and community organizations CIHA hopes to be a catalyst for much needed investment in the housing stock and the quality of life in Mt View, and eventually other target neighborhoods.
