CIHA Stocks Elder Campus Library

Cook Inlet Housing Authority purchased 700 large print books for $500 from Anchorage Municipal Libraries. Anyone interested in donating books to the libraries at CIHA's elder facilities please contact Liberty Kyser at 338-2314.

Spring Break Safety Week

Twenty children participated in Spring Break Safety Week at Strawberry Village Cottages (SVC). This five day event offered interactive classes to school age children living at SVC. The classes provided an opportunity to learn about feelings and relationships, drugs and alcohol, exercise, nutrition, personal hygiene, emergency preparedness and baby sitting skills.

As the participants celebrated their new knowledge on the final day of the event, they were surprised by a visit from local fire fighters. Volunteers of America, Women's Healthcare Center, The American Red Cross, Calista Corp., Alaska Health Fair and State of Alaska's Department of Health and Social Services donated time and materials to make this event a success.

AARP Helps Elders with Tax Returns

AARP volunteers helped prepare 14 tax returns and answered questions for the residents of Cook Inlet Housing's elder rental campus in Muldoon. In addition, approximately 30 percent of the residents of CIHA's elder property in Seldovia also received assistance with their tax returns.
