FNBA Donates Art To CIHA

First National Bank Alaska, via the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) office and Vice President Dawn Coursey, donated nearly two dozen pieces of Alaska Native art to Cook Inlet Housing for display at Centennial Village, CIHA’s elder housing campus in East Anchorage.

The donation is part of an overall commitment FNBA has made to partner with CIHA. This partnership has been demonstrated through, for example: support of CIHA's resident services program; sponsorship of two successful Federal Home Loan Bank grant requests on behalf of CIHA; and various other program and construction finance mechanisms.

Tyonek Terrace and Kenaitze Pointe, CIHA’s latest properties at Centennial Village, were both designed with beautiful display cabinetry in the entry common spaces. CIHA relies on donations of artwork and continues to seek donations of art and/or alternate funding sources to fulfill this need.

All of CIHA’s elder facilities were designed to facilitate interaction amongst residents – therefore common spaces are focal points in the buildings.

“It’s important that our residents feel at home, and art is a key to creating a warm, inviting, ‘homey’ atmosphere for them,” said Carol Gore, CIHA President and CEO. “I can’t adequately express my gratitude to First National Bank, Dawn and the other partners who have so generously provided artwork to honor our Native culture and offer so much beauty for our residents to enjoy.”

Thanks to the generosity of our Rental Housing Manager Mary Chouinard and her family, Kenaitze Pointe has had Native art on loan for most of the past year. Thanks also to CIRI for the long-term loan of a dozen or more framed prints and original paintings and to Mark Pfeffer/Koonce Pfeffer Bettis and Jerry Neeser/Venture Development for their generous donations on permanent display at both Kenaitze Pointe and Tyonek Terrace.

Cook Inlet Housing is still in need of artwork for the display cases and walls of our rental facilities. If you’re interested in making a donation, please contact Amy Jennings at 276-8822 or Mary Chouinard at 338-2622.
