Efforts Continue in Mountain View

Ownership

Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA) closed on the first two Mountain View ownership homes of 2006 this week. Two families are getting brand new, beautiful, four-bedroom homes for Christmas! Congratulations to both families and to the CIHA staff who have worked so hard to complete the homes and the finance packages.

Two more four-bedroom homes are nearly finished and should close in January, but there are four homes – including CIHA's fully accessible "Ideal Home" - still available for purchase. If you know anyone looking to buy a gorgeous, brand new, three-bedroom, two-bath home, send them our way. Qualified families are paying as little as $1,200 a month. Check out our website for income guidelines.

Neighborhood Clean-up

As many of you may be aware, CIHA recently demolished a condemned apartment complex and adjacent single-family home saving the municipality about $64,000 in demolition costs and thousands more in police and development services department staff time.

With more than 118 police visits to the site in 16 months, the blighted eight-unit apartment complex and home at 222 and 234 Price Street in Mountain View have been host to considerable criminal activity, and were deemed dangerous buildings by MOA Code Abatement inspectors.

CIHA bought the properties from the owner, Continental Land Investments, Inc., after a series of negotiations. The MOA deemed the structures life/safety hazards in the spring of this year.

CIHA will build two new single family homes at the site next summer, with an additional six homes slated for various other sites throughout Mountain View. The homes will be available for purchase by families earning 80 percent or less of area median income, or about $59,000 for a family of four.

Rent-to-own

Cook Inlet Housing is currently accepting applications for the 24 rent-to own homes John Hagmeier built for us in Mountain View this summer. These three and four-bedroom homes are perfect for families who need the space and prefer the lifestyle of single-family living, but aren't quite ready to buy. Homes are available to families earning less than 60% of area median income. Rents vary from $1050 to $1150 per month, depending on the size of the home.

Mixed-use

Construction of CIHA's first mixed-use development – located on Mountain View Drive next to Noble's Diner – is moving along nicely. We expect the building to be complete and ready for occupancy by both commercial and residential tenants in early spring.
