In the Works

CIHA continues to be busy throughout the community with ongoing revitalization and development efforts. Here is just a glimpse of our current work plan.

Mountain View in Motion

We continue to invest in Mountain View with more strategically targeted acquisitions for redevelopment. Our goal is to target the hardest to develop because of their environmental contamination or blight. At the same time, we are mindful of our role as support to the neighborhood—together we are seeking to identify the "tipping point" when the neighborhood will attract private investment.

  • Demolition of the (environmentally challenged) Wizard Car Wash parcel along Mountain View Drive will take place early this summer. The design and funding process is underway and development of the site into a mixed use property should begin in 2010.
  • Demolition of five very deteriorated structures located on Bliss Street, with the design and funding pursuit process underway and building to begin in 2010. See the related upcoming event.
  • Design development of five new single-family homes for home ownership sale purposes. Demolition activity has occurred within the past six months with the final demolition occurring in the next two months. Construction is planned on these previously deteriorated sites early this summer.
  • Demolition of the deteriorated structures located at 4302 Mountain View Drive, which CIHA just acquired.  Design development is underway for what we hope to build in 2010.
  • Subject to the receipt of Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds from AHFC, we plan to acquire four to eight deteriorated and/or foreclosed parcels which we intend to demolish and then build new high-quality duplexes.

Enhancing Elder Properties

CIHA is the largest provider of elder properties in the State with our oldest property built in 1982. We have a responsibility to maintain and preserve our existing housing while addressing continually growing needs in our community.

  • Construction of Eklutna Estates, a 59-unit, $23.5 million senior housing development within CIHA’s Centennial Village Senior Housing Campus. Eklutna Estates is scheduled for completion in July 2010. See the related upcoming event.
  • Unit renovation will begin at Seldovia House with eight of the ten units scheduled to be completely renovated with accessible and energy efficient plans by the end of this year. The remaining ten units will be completed in 2010.
  • Continued unit renovation at Salamatof Heights (20 additional units to be completed in 2009, bringing the total renovated unit count to 100 (with the final 20 to be completed in 2010).
  • Chickaloon Landing landscaping and irrigation project will take place this summer as well as parking lot upgrades at Chuda House and Ninilchik House.
