What You’ll Do
As our Payroll Specialist, you’ll be the engine behind CIHA’s payroll operations—ensuring every paycheck, deduction, and report is accurate and timely. You’ll work closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and third-party vendors to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations.
- Process payroll and related liabilities with accuracy and timeliness
- Audit timekeeping records and maintain attendance data
- Manage deductions, garnishments, and tax filings
- Prepare and submit retirement plan reports (PERS & SBS)
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and resolve variances
- Coordinate W-2 preparation and support internal/external audits
- Maintain payroll documentation and update procedures for compliance
- Respond to employee inquiries with professionalism and clarity
- Serve as the primary liaison with third-party payroll processors
What We’re Looking For
Think you’ve got what it takes? Here’s what we’re after:
- Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in payroll data and financial records.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and experience working with payroll and accounting software systems.
- Strong understanding of federal and state payroll regulations, tax laws, and audit procedures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external vendors, both verbally and in writing, to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Experience handling sensitive employee information with discretion and in accordance with privacy standards.
- Proficient in diagnosing payroll issues, identifying root causes, and implementing timely and effective solutions.
- Ability to operate a 10-key by touch (bonus points if you love it!)
The Basics
- Education: Associate degree in accounting or related field preferred (experience may substitute year-for-year)
- Experience: 3–5 years of payroll experience required
- Certification: CPP or FPC preferred
